Backpackers first discovered Kho Samui in the early 1970's, and at that time, it was called "heaven on earth". The island is gifted with such an incredibly rich variety of beaches, bays and coves that it is said to look like several islands at once. There are approximately 40.000 local Thai people on Samui, and they are extremely warm and friendly people.

Samui's main resources are tourism and coconut. There are about 3 million coconut trees on the island and each one gives 70-75 coconut per year. Each month, Samui supplies Bangkok with millions of coconuts.
